L-Methylfolate (5-MTHF, active folate) — living evidence map
The Atlas page holds the claims; this is how its evidence evolved.
Summary
5-methyltetrahydrofolate (5-MTHF) is the main naturally circulating folate; unlike synthetic folic acid, it is well absorbed when stomach pH is altered and does not depend on the MTHFR enzyme, so it bypasses that genetic defect. · pmid:24494987
Mechanism
Infused into the forearm of 10 patients with familial hypercholesterolaemia, 5-MTHF restored impaired endothelium-dependent vasodilation, and in vitro it reduced superoxide generation. · pmid:9462523
Identity
PubChem CID 135398561: L-Methylfolate, C20H25N7O6, 459.5 g/mol. · pubchem:135398561
CAS registry number 31690-09-2. · pubchem:135398561
IUPAC name: (2S)-2-[[4-[[(6S)-2-amino-5-methyl-4-oxo-3,6,7,8-tetrahydropteridin-6-yl]methylamino]benzoyl]amino]pentanedioic acid. · pubchem:135398561
Where the evidence actually sits
Proportion of the 2 claims about L-Methylfolate (5-MTHF, active folate) standing at each tier. Community volume is shown on the Consensus tab beside this and is never averaged into it.
Living evidence history
2 resolved citations, oldest to newest, coloured by tier. Retractions and contradictions land here as they are recorded.
Structure
No structure representation on record. PepJunkie draws only what an authoritative record supplies; for a peptide that is the residue sequence, and none has been curated for L-Methylfolate (5-MTHF, active folate) yet.
Dose evidence, rung by rung
A studied human dose exists on file. Open the rung: the dose is the paper's, in its context, never PepJunkie's.
- Approved-label dose · a resolved regulatory document names a labelled dose
nothing resolved on this rung
- Studied human doses · resolved human studies at the established tier
- Folate, folic acid and 5-methyltetrahydrofolate are not the same thing. · pmid 24494987 · 2014
- Observational evidence · resolved human data at the emerging tier: thin, or contested
- 5-methyltetrahydrofolate, the active form of folic acid, restores endothelial function in familial hypercholesterolemia. · pmid 9462523 · 1998
- Community-reported protocols · protocol propositions from distinct members, counted once per human
nothing resolved on this rung
- Preclinical evidence · resolved animal, cell or mechanistic work
nothing resolved on this rung
2 resolved citations, 0 unresolved (an unresolved citation lends nothing). Community volume is its own rung and is never averaged into the evidence rungs.
