N-Acetylcysteine (NAC) — living evidence map
The Atlas page holds the claims; this is how its evidence evolved.
Summary
N-acetylcysteine is the antidote for acetaminophen (paracetamol) overdose: in a multicenter study of 2,540 patients treated orally, liver injury was least when treatment began within 8 to 10 hours of ingestion, and efficacy fell with further delay. · pmid:3059186
A systematic review found favourable trial evidence for N-acetylcysteine in several psychiatric and neurological disorders, and called for larger controlled trials. · pmid:25957927
Identity
PubChem CID 12035: N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine, C5H9NO3S, 163.20 g/mol. · pubchem:12035
CAS registry number 616-91-1. · pubchem:12035
IUPAC name: (2R)-2-acetamido-3-sulfanylpropanoic acid. · pubchem:12035
Where the evidence actually sits
Proportion of the 2 claims about N-Acetylcysteine (NAC) standing at each tier. Community volume is shown on the Consensus tab beside this and is never averaged into it.
Living evidence history
2 resolved citations, oldest to newest, coloured by tier. Retractions and contradictions land here as they are recorded.
Structure
No structure representation on record. PepJunkie draws only what an authoritative record supplies; for a peptide that is the residue sequence, and none has been curated for N-Acetylcysteine (NAC) yet.
Dose evidence, rung by rung
A studied human dose exists on file. Open the rung: the dose is the paper's, in its context, never PepJunkie's.
- Approved-label dose · a resolved regulatory document names a labelled dose

- Clinical trials of N-acetylcysteine in psychiatry and neurology: A systematic review. · pmid 25957927 · 2015
- Community-reported protocols · protocol propositions from distinct members, counted once per human

- Preclinical evidence · resolved animal, cell or mechanistic work
nothing resolved on this rung
2 resolved citations, 0 unresolved (an unresolved citation lends nothing). Community volume is its own rung and is never averaged into the evidence rungs.
