Summary

Dihydrolipoic acid is the reduced form of alpha-lipoic acid; together the two form a redox couple with a low redox potential of -0.32 V, which makes dihydrolipoic acid a strong reductant. · pmid:12127266

Mechanism

In simple oxidation systems, dihydrolipoic acid, but not lipoic acid itself, directly scavenged peroxyl radicals in water and in membranes and reduced the ascorbyl radical of vitamin C. · pmid:1417985

Laboratory studies also show pro-oxidant effects: dihydrolipoic acid stimulated superoxide production in rat liver mitochondria. · pmid:12127266

Structure

No structure representation on record. PepJunkie draws only what an authoritative record supplies; for a peptide that is the residue sequence, and none has been curated for Dihydrolipoic acid (DHLA, reduced ALA) yet.

Dose evidence, rung by rung

No established safe human dose. Nothing on file establishes one. That is a statement about the evidence PepJunkie holds, not a promise about the molecule.
