Orexin B

Orexin B (hypocretin-2) is one of two hypothalamic orexin peptides; the orexin system is a critical regulator of sleep and wakefulness, and deficient orexin signaling causes narcolepsy-cataplexy in humans, dogs and rodents.

Summary

Orexin B (hypocretin-2) is one of two hypothalamic orexin peptides; the orexin system is a critical regulator of sleep and wakefulness, and deficient orexin signaling causes narcolepsy-cataplexy in humans, dogs and rodents. · pmid:19689310

In rats, orexin-A and orexin-B cell bodies lie only in the lateral hypothalamus and perifornical nuclei, but orexin-B fibers are sparse compared with the widespread orexin-A fibers. · pmid:10698122

Mechanism

In mice, orexin A crossed the blood-brain barrier from the blood by simple diffusion, whereas orexin B was rapidly degraded in blood and was not detected intact in the brain after intravenous injection. · pmid:10087007

Structure

No structure representation on record. PepJunkie draws only what an authoritative record supplies; for a peptide that is the residue sequence, and none has been curated for Orexin B yet.

Dose evidence, rung by rung

A studied human dose exists on file. Open the rung: the dose is the paper's, in its context, never PepJunkie's.
